On Tuesday 4th June Coniston House held a Garden Party to officially open the newly landscaped gardens and to reopen their Blissful Memories Beach Hut for the Summer. The weather was gorgeous and the event was attended by all the home’s residents and many of their residents. Also joining them for the afternoon was the town’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Graham Newman who spent time talking to the residents while they enjoyed the musical entertainment.
Coniston House is a residential care home which specialises in caring for elderly people with dementia. Coniston House’s owner, Rebecca Porter, explained why the garden is so important for those people they are caring for. ‘Most of our residents will have spent many years enjoying their own gardens and we need to make Coniston a place where they can enjoy their surroundings and feel at home. The gardens have been designed to be a safe, colourful, fragrant and relaxing area where residents can walk or sit, enjoy different activities and music and benefit from the sunshine. Our Activities Coordinator organises different activities each day, many of which will take place in the gardens now that the warm weather has arrived and the Garden Party was the first of four events organised for the next two months. We are holding a Wimbledon themed afternoon soon which will include a Pimms and strawberries and cream tea, a Fish and Chip Seaside Supper and also a Family Day and barbecue in August.’
Coniston House is able to offer respite care from one to four weeks and two of the residents enjoying the Garden Party were at Coniston for a respite stay. One commented ‘I have timed my stay perfectly.’
The home’s manager, Lorraine Young, was delighted with Garden Party and thanked all her staff for their hard work and commitment.
